About the winery

Marie-Bernard Gillioz, a pioneer of environmentally friendly viticulture, tends her vines with passion and conviction.

The daughter of a winegrower, Marie-Bernard Gillioz discovered the world of wine at an early age, working alongside her father on the slopes of Saint-Léonard. After ten years as a teacher, she decided to follow her passion and trained in oenology at Changins in the early 1980s. In 1992, she made her first vintage in her own cellar, which she built above Grimisuat. Over the years, she has built up a 3-hectare estate spread across the municipalities of Sion and Saint-Léonard.

At the heart of her philosophy is respect for the soil, in order to bring out the character of the wine. Marie-Bernard pays close attention to soil life and biodiversity and favors a natural approach to viticulture; since the estate was founded, she has let grass grow between her vines. This commitment to protecting the environment has since taken concrete form: the estate has been certified organic since 2022.

In the cellar, the same search for authenticity guides her work. Each plot is vinified and bottled separately, in order to best express the particularities of its terroir. Interventions are kept to a minimum so that each grape variety can reveal its personality and the richness of its fruit.

In 2023, her daughter Coraline, an agronomist (agricultural engineer), joined the family business. Her arrival marks a new chapter in the estate’s history, in which know-how, environmental awareness and transmission come together to keep a committed approach to viticulture and wines with character alive.
