Gillioz Marie-Bernard - Grimisuat
About the winery
Marie-Bernard learned to love the vines and the work of the winegrowers from an early age, when she accompanied her father, a winegrower, in the vineyards of Saint-Léonard.
However, she waited until her thirties, and ten years working as a teacher, to change professions and pursue training as an oenologist at the School of Engineering at Changins in the early 1980s. Hired as a métral (one who cultivates vines on behalf of the owner) for the Bonvin estate in Sion, she trained at the same time with Didier Joris.
Little by little, she built up her own vineyard in the Sion and Saint-Léonard municipalities. In 1992, she produced her first vintage in the cellar she had just built on the heights of Grimisuat.
Over the years, the estate has grown to reach its current 3 hectares. The operation has been converting to organic farming since 2020 in order to obtain the Bio Suisse label.
