Salzgeber Weine - St. German

About the winery

The winery is located in the winemaking village of St. German, on the sunny southern slopes of the Lötschberg.

Viticulture is an old tradition in the family, who once produced only enough for their own consumption. Highly acidic wines, such as Gwäss, Lafnetscha and Resi had a long shelf life and were viewed as a refreshing drink. Starting in 1950, these varieties were replaced by Pinot Noir, Gamay, Fendant and Johannisberg.

Experience soon showed that with such an excellent climate, even speciality and late-ripening varieties produced quality wines.

Their family business now cultivates two hectares of vines and still purchases some grapes from the village’s amateur winegrowers in autumn. They currently produce 30,000 litres annually, and this figure continues to grow.
