About the winery
Domaine Jean-René Germanier is one of the oldest wineries in Switzerland, founded in 1896. Urbain Germanier harvested his first vintage in 1896 at Balavaud and devoted his life to his vineyards. His three sons, Francis, Paul and Charles, later took over the estate. Today the winery is run by the third and fourth generations, Jean-René Germanier and his nephew Gilles Besse.
Located in the hamlet of Balavaud in Vétroz, in the Valais region, Domaine Jean-René Germanier covers 240 hectares and produces just over one million bottles. Together, Jean-René and Gilles have practiced sustainable farming for more than twenty-five years and were ultimately pioneers of a qualitative revolution in Swiss winemaking.
The Swiss Rhône Valley offers an extraordinary alpine terroir, and they spare no effort to ensure their wines are a worthy reflection of it. The young team, led by the talented winemakers Richard Riand and his wife Delphine Riand-Dubuis, practices traditional and barrel vinification with exceptional rigor and passion. They produce wines that rank among the best in Switzerland, paying particular attention to local grape varieties and the specialties of this unique terroir that is the Valais.
Numerous international awards have crowned this pursuit of excellence, including more than 30 wines rated above 90 points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
