Domaine de l’Enfer - Salquenen

About the winery

The Domaine de l'Enfer is a family-run business that produces wine exclusively from its own grapes. Diego and Sandra took over the winery from Robert Roten in 1997. Diego trained as a winemaker in Wädenswil, and Salome, their eldest daughter, obtained her own winemaking qualification in Châteauneuf. The couple have three other children – Laura, Noemie and Samuel – and can always count on their family to help out in the vineyard, at events like the Printemps du Vin (Wine Spring) and the Marche des Cépages (Parade of Varieties), or simply by serving up a raclette. The couple have enjoyed many wonderful raclettes and wine-tasting evenings with their customers in their cosy carnotzet cellar.

Diego and Sandra look after three hectares of vines on a hillside on the right bank of the Rhône – the steepness of the which means the vines have to be cultivated by hand. The winery’s production methods follow strict criteria with regard to soil, microclimate, yield limits, and environmentally friendly winegrowing. This contributes to the exceptional quality of their various white and red wines, which you can enjoy in their cosy carnotzet.
