Cave Biber - Salquenen
About the winery
The story begins in 1971 with René Mathier, who founded his own winery in Salgesch after his years of traveling and, as it were, bottled the first Pinot Noir. 30 years later, Jürg Biber took over the winery as master winemaker. He recognized the problems of climate change early on and switched to growing varieties that were exotic in the region at the time, such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. These brought him popularity, as the high quality of the grapes earned him the respect and enthusiasm of his customers.
Successful years pass and Jürg Biber, already of retirement age, finds his successor with friends. Bernd Reichert's passion for high quality, from the vineyard to the bottle, ensures the continued existence of the winery as a business along the Raspille.
Since 2022, Cave Biber has been a public limited company made up of several people who use their interdisciplinary expertise to ensure that the quality of the business is maintained. Remo Meyer, Head of Culture and Cellar, is the new man at the forefront. He has already won gold medals with his wines at both national and international level. Jasmine Fryand, who has been with the company since 2017, contributes to quality assurance as project manager. Jürg Biber will remain with the company, but will take second place and be named Honorary President for his outstanding achievements. In addition to President Bernd Reichert, Ursula Brunner, Michel Duc and Robert Zurbriggen cover the other specialist areas. Cave Biber has been a member of Jungwinzer Schweiz since 2024.
