Cave de l’Etat du Valais – Domaine de Châteauneuf - Sion

About the winery

An epic vineyard surrounded by rocky grassland, the Domaine de Châteauneuf is a true haven of biodiversity spanning roughly 3.5 hectares of terraces. Its terraces, supported by centuries-old dry-stone walls, produce wines with a distinctive character.

The growers at Châteauneuf are keen to preserve and showcase this rich natural heritage, and practise sustainable and environmentally friendly viticultural methods to allow the terroir to express itself freely.

Châteauneuf is an ideal complement to the Grand Brûlé estate, in particular thanks to the unique qualities of its terraces, which are supported by ancient dry-stone walls. The Domaine de Châteauneuf has offered courses on the construction of dry-stone walls for several years now.

Its 1931 Merlot was the first to be produced in the canton of Valais, and has continued to shape the history and reputation of the estate as its emblematic wine.
